How to avoid blistering and cracking when applying veneer glue to veneer

Wood veneer glue is generally used to veneer solid wood composite furniture. Currently, most solid wood composite furniture on the market is made of density board with solid wood veneer on the outside. And because the surface of the furniture is generally uneven and has various shapes, it is necessary to use a machine to apply it. It is difficult to veneer the wood veneer, so it is usually done by hand.

What is veneer technology?

Veneering is a woodworking technique that can effectively solve problems such as uneven and cracked wood surfaces, while also increasing the aesthetics and durability of the wood. The principle of veneer technology is to stick thin veneer onto the surface of wooden products, then use tools to flatten it, and finally paint it.

Sticking wood veneer not only repairs and decorates wooden products, but also prevents insects and moths, enhances the durability of wooden products, and other characteristics. Moreover, the use of veneer can enhance the aesthetic appeal and decorative effect of wooden products, making it a popular woodworking technique.

What is the main reason why veneer foams and cracks easily when using veneer glue?

Some customers are prone to blistering when using veneer glue to veneer manual. If they use an iron to iron the veneer surface after bubbling, cracking will easily occur. At worst, the workers will rework, and at worst, the furniture will become unusable. This problem has troubled many customers. According to our experience, when the wood veneer is blistered and easily cracked using veneer glue, it is generally caused by the following situations:

1.The base material has not been polished before the veneer is bonded, and the surface is uneven.

2.The attached wood veneer is too thick, and the wood veneer is not thoroughly moistened before use.

3.When using iron to iron skin, if the temperature is too low, it will easily lead to blistering. If the temperature is too high, it will cause cracking. If the ironing is done too frequently and the interval is short, it may also cause cracking.

4.The use of veneer glue from irregular manufacturers resulted in insufficient adhesion.

Wood veneer application tips

Although applying wood veneer may seem simple, practical operation still requires some skills. Firstly, suitable wood veneer should be selected, and the color and texture should match with the wooden products. Then, the veneer should be softened by sprinkling water appropriately, and the surface of the wooden products should be polished with sandpaper to make it smooth. Then, special wood veneer adhesive should be applied to stick the veneer.

After bonding, an electric iron can be used to lightly press the wood veneer to firmly bond with the wooden products. Finally, the surface of the wood veneer should be lightly polished to determine its adhesion and smoothness. The next step is to proceed with the painting process.

Several ways to avoid blistering and cracking of wood veneer

To prevent the occurrence of the above situations, customers should pay attention to the following matters when bonding:

1. The substrate needs to be pre-treated before bonding to ensure that the board surface is smooth and free of deformation.

2. The thickness of the rice skin should not exceed 2.5 mm, with 2.0 mm being the best.

3. The veneer must be thoroughly moistened and dried to a suitable humidity before use.

4. The ironing temperature should be appropriate. The end surface or curved surface should be ironed multiple times, and the time interval should be relatively long

5. Of course, the key is to choose veneer glue produced by regular manufacturers. The solid content should not be too low and the later service will be good.
