How to judge the high and low temperature resistance of carton sealing glue

For many factories that produce packaging boxes and cartons, the most worrying situation is that when using carton sealing glue for pasting, the initial bonding effect of the paper is very good, and the bonding seal does not fall off. However, when stored in the warehouse for some time or shipped to customers, the film may become brittle or degummed.

1. Why are cartons degummed

Normally, the main reason for this kind of degumming is that the sealing printing glue has insufficient weather resistance, such as high and low-temperature resistance or moisture resistance, etc. Therefore, it is recommended that manufacturers better inspect the bonded packaging before leaving the factory. The box is tested to ensure its weather resistance.

Below, I will share with you the high and low-temperature resistance testing process of carton sealing glue:

2. Carton sealing glue high and low-temperature resistance testing process

Process 1: Take some cardboard boxes sealed with glue, slowly tear them open along the bonding points on the edge of the paper with your hands, and observe whether the base material at the tearing point can be damaged (referred to as the broken material effect). If it can be done every time If you observe that the paper base material can be torn off at the bonded joint, then there is no problem with the bonding performance of the surface glue.

Process 2: Place the packaging box bonded with sealing printing glue in a daily environment for some time (at least 24 hours). After the placement time is up, bake the packaging box in a constant temperature oven at 60°C for 72 hours, and observe whether the film is brittle and whether there is degumming. And pat the bonding area with your hands to see if there are cracks. If there are no cracks, it proves that there is no problem with the heat resistance of the glue.

Process 3. According to the method of Process 2, first place the packaging box for some time. After the placement time is over, place the packaging box in the freezer of the refrigerator for 72 hours. After freezing, observe whether the film has developed. If brittleness or degumming occurs, pat the bonding area with your hands to see if there is cracking. This detection method is mainly to detect the low-temperature resistance of the sealing printing glue.

Process 4: Place the packaging boxes that can pass the above three testing methods in a normal temperature warehouse for observation. The packaging boxes will be observed every half month to see if there is degumming or cracking at the bonding joints. The testing time is half a year. If there are no problems with the product for half a year. It can ensure that the sealing printing glue used can meet your bonding requirements.

The above is the testing process for how to judge the high and low-temperature resistance and bonding effect of carton sealing glue. Printing and packaging factories can use this method to test whether the glue meets your bonding requirements.
