EVA edge-banding hot melt adhesive is a type of hot melt adhesive, mostly used for edge-banding of panel furniture. However, when many new furniture factories consult us about glue, they do not know what temperature of hot melt adhesive they should choose. Next, let me share with you how manufacturers should choose the glue temperature when choosing EVA edge-banding hot melt adhesive:
1. Why does EVA edge-banding hot melt adhesive need to be heated?
EVA hot melt glue is a safe and environmentally friendly thermoplastic adhesive. When the glue is heated to a certain temperature, it will change from a solid state to a molten liquid, and then it will be applied to the corresponding plate or material. When the temperature drops, it will naturally solidify to form adhesion. The above is the reason why hot melt glue needs to be heated.
2. Three types of EVA hot melt adhesive
According to the usage of furniture manufacturers on the market, they are distinguished by the corresponding temperatures and are generally divided into three types:
high-temperature hot melt adhesive(180℃-210℃)
medium-temperature hot melt adhesive(160℃-180℃)
low-temperature hot melt adhesive(140℃-160℃)
3. What is low-temperature hot melt adhesive?
The softening point of low-temperature hot melt adhesive is between 80℃-100℃, and the operating temperature of the edge banding machine is generally between 140℃-160℃. The melting point of low-temperature hot melt adhesive is relatively low, and it has good melting and remelting properties, a long open period, and is not easy to burn the edge banding strip. It is mostly used in manual edge banding processes, and the edge banding speed is below 20 meters/minute.
4. What is medium-temperature hot melt adhesive?
Medium-temperature hot melt adhesive is similar to low-temperature hot melt adhesive, with a softening point between 80℃-120℃. The operating temperature of the edge banding machine is generally between 160℃-180℃. The open time is shorter than that of low-temperature hot melt adhesive. It is mostly used in manual and semi-automatic edge banding machines, and the edge banding speed is 0-25 m/min.
5. What is high-temperature hot melt adhesive?
The softening point of high-temperature hot melt adhesive is between 90℃-120℃, and the operating temperature of the edge banding machine is generally between 180℃-210℃. Its advantages are high initial adhesion and high bonding strength. Normally, the higher the temperature that the hot melt adhesive can withstand, the better its corresponding bonding force will be, and the better the edge banding effect will be. It is mostly used in large and medium-sized automatic edge banding machines (the edge banding machines of this type are highly efficient, and the requirements for glue will be higher), and the edge banding speed is above 25 meters/minute.
The above is the difference between three hot melt adhesives with different temperatures. Simply put, medium and low temperatures are mostly used in manual or semi-automatic edge banding machines, while high temperatures are mostly used in fully automatic edge banding machines. Of course, they also have different operating temperatures. When choosing, you can choose hot melt adhesive according to actual production needs.
