How to use wood veneer adhesive?

  1.  Prepare the board and veneer, which should be flat and clean.
  2.  Moisten the veneer appropriately.
  3.  Apply glue to the board and veneer (if it is single-sided glue, apply it on the veneer), and increase the amount of glue applied to the corners.
  4.  Wait for the glue to reach a semi-dry state, and then glue the two together.
  5.  Use a heating device( Electric iron, heating cloth, etc. ) to pressurize and heat it.
  6.  Wait 24 hours to enter the next production process.

Application notes

  1. The moisture content of the board should be controlled at 8-12%, the surface of the board should be clean and smooth, the primer on the cut surface of the board should be well polished, and the veneer should be well stitched without overlap.
  2. When opening a new barrel, stir the adhesive to make it uniform to avoid the influence of water vapor. Seal immediately after removing the glue to prevent film formation on the adhesive surface. The glue should be sealed in time during use to prevent water loss, skinning, dry film, and particles.
  3. Glue amount: Apply glue on one side, 80-200 g/m2 (select the amount of glue according to the thickness of the wood veneer, as long as it does not penetrate too much). If the amount of glue applied is too high, the drying speed will be slow and the glue will easily penetrate. Low will cause blistering due to lack of glue.
  4. Maintain the humidity and flexibility of the veneer surface (thick veneer can be properly moistened with water mist before hot pressing to make it easy to fit).
  5. After applying glue (manual lamination), cover the veneer within a reasonable opening and closing time, and gently rub the veneer to remove air bubbles to prevent film formation on the glue surface. After the glue forms a film (it sticks to your fingers when pressed but there is no glue on your hands), you can press and polish it for the first time.
  6. When the machine is pressurized, the pressure is balanced to ensure that the plate is evenly stressed at all parts, and there can be no biased or pressure-free parts. Hot pressing temperature: 80-90℃ in summer; 90-110℃ in winter. As the temperature decreases, the hot pressing temperature needs to be increased. Hot pressing time: 2-4 minutes in summer; 3-5 minutes in winter. When the temperature decreases, the pressing time needs to be extended.
  7. After polishing, the boards should be stacked flat and aged under pressure for a period of time (more than 24 hours in winter; more than 18 hours in summer). After the moisture is balanced, the next processing step should be carried out to prevent the board from deforming.

Wood veneer adhesives FAQs

Q1. Why does the surface of the veneer bubble up after it is attached to the board?

A1. a. The board has not been polished and the surface is uneven. b. The veneer to be bonded is too thick and has not been moistened before use. c. The temperature is too low when ironing. d. The solid content of the glue is too low and the bonding strength is insufficient.

Q2. Why does the veneer fall off after the finished product is sprayed with paint?

A2. a. The selected veneer glue is not solvent-resistant. b. The solid content of the glue is too low and the bonding strength is insufficient.

Q3. Why does the veneer crack after being glued together?

A3. a.The heating time is too long and the temperature is too high. b. The moisture content of the wetted veneer is uneven. c. The shape of the board is too complicated. d. The thickness of the veneer is too thin.

Q4. Why does the pasted veneer appear to “turn black”?

A4. a. The heating time is too long and the temperature is too high. b. The veneer is too thin and the glue penetrates the surface. After heating, carbonization occurs. c. The veneer contacts iron. d. There is debris at the bottom of the iron.
