Solid wood laminating glue is a kind of glue often used by many wood factories and furniture manufacturers. It is mainly used to splice scattered wood together. There are two types of solid wood laminating glue on the market: one-component solid wood laminating glue and two-component solid wood laminating glue. One-component solid wood laminating glue is used without adding hardener, while two-component solid wood laminating glue is the glue that is added with hardener and stirred for use.

1. Why add hardener ?
The main purpose of adding the hardener to solid wood laminate adhesive is to improve the product’s water resistance and high and low-temperature resistance, accelerate the product curing time, improve the product’s bonding strength, etc. Therefore, the addition ratio and activity period of the hardener are crucial to the final board. Next, I will share with you the importance of the ratio of hardener and activation period of solid wood laminate adhesive.

2. Ratio of solid wood laminating glue to hardener
The ratio of glue to hardener, according to our experience, is 100: (10%-15%) by weight. In winter, the weather is cold and the finished product needs to have good water resistance. The recommended ratio is 15%. Otherwise, the ratio of hardener should be reduced. Before use, the solid wood laminating glue and hardener must be fully stirred. If stirred manually, the recommended time is about 2 minutes. If stirred by a machine, it takes about 45 seconds. When the glue is slightly bubbling, it means that the mixture is successful and it can be used for gluing. The glue and hardener must be fully stirred to ensure the bonding strength and weather resistance of the glue.

3.How long is the active period of solid wood laminating glue ?
The mixed solid wood laminating glue should be used up within its active period (suitable time for use), because the adhesive performance of the glue is the best at this time, and the active period of the glue is generally within 30-60 minutes (if the ambient temperature is high, the active period will be shortened). It should be noted that the solid wood laminating glue mixed with hardener is not recommended to be used by the manufacturer after the activation period. Because the strength and weather resistance of the glue after the activation period will be greatly reduced, if such glue is used to splice boards, it is likely to cause cracking of the wood after splicing.

The above are some precautions when using solid wood laminating glue and hardeners. If you have any questions about the use of solid wood laminating glue, you can consult us.
